From One Thing to the Next...

This past Saturday was my daughter’s last volleyball game of this season. They improved greatly and did a good job! It was fun to watch and help coach this great group of girls. Sunday afternoon was the first basketball practice. Their first basketball game is this coming Saturday. There is no break for us right now. It will take them a little time to transition from volleyball to basketball, and time is something they are short on. We may have a rough start. The Little Cougars also only have five basketball players this year, which means the girls will get no break during games. I have faith in them; they can do it! I got my kids all dressed up and out for Trick or Treating Saturday night. Well, two of them anyway... My oldest went with one of her friends. I love small town trick or treating! We always go back to Edgar, to our old neighborhood. It’s great to see them and catch up a bit. They love seeing how much the kids have changed. Only in a small town can you still get homemade cookies, and popcorn balls, and not be afraid to eat them. Parents usually get a few “treats” themselves. We finished our night at our favorite place. The house that used to be across the street. They have a tradition of setting up a firepit in the driveway and parents and kids can roast marshmallows and make smores. The fire usually feels pretty good by the end of the night. My two youngest decided to rake leaves while we were there. They had about as much fun doing that as trick or treating. My daughter, however, started getting upset when her little brother kept jumping, and running through her piles, messing them up. Of course, the time changed Saturday night, making us all feel completely off on Sunday. Eventually, we will adjust to the time change... Right about when it’s time to change the clocks again. Sunday morning, my youngest daughter asked me if on the day you go trick or treating, that is Halloween? I said yes. She then asked if that was the last day of fall, and when it would start snowing. I said, “no it is still fall, and, it can start snowing at anytime. It’s hard to explain how the seasons work. While trick or treating, we spoke about the year there was a terrible blizzard and Halloween was cancelled. I was living in Colorado at the time, and I assume it was the same year. My parents took me trick or treating to their best friends house so I could still dress up and go somewhere. Seems every year I have taken my kids trick or treating, it has been fairly nice. Before we know it, it will be time for Christmas. I know some stores already have their Christmas decor up for sale... There just doesn’t seem to be any transition time anymore, we just go from one thing to the next.
