Hypnotized...

I have never been hypnotized, and to be completely honest, I was quite a skeptic. This past Saturday night, I attended a show put on by the Edgar Community Club. They hired hypnotist Brent Breckner for the entertainment. I have seen hypnotists before and I choose not to participate. There have been few people that somewhat convinced me. This past weekend however, I personally knew some of the people being hypnotized. I am no longer a skeptic! Breckner also has a day job as a high school principal. As he hypnotized his participants, the lights were low, he spoke in a soothing, quiet voice, and there was relaxation music playing in the background. It was hard for me not to fall asleep. Once the participants were completely relaxed and hypnotized, the fun began. Breckner happened to hypnotize a teacher. One of the things he had her do (not knowing she was a teacher) was, anytime he asked her to spell a word, she would only be able to spell eieio. It worked. She tried so hard to spell the words he gave her correctly, but she couldn’t do it. After saying eieio numerous times, you could hear her say, “This isn’t right.” I also saw her “ride” a roller coaster. She is terribly afraid of heights and that was quite evident! The higher the roller coaster went, the more nervous she got; it looked as though she was running in place. At one point, she was so scared, she started crying. All Breckner had to do was touch her head and say sleep and she literally fell over asleep. She even tucked a hand under her face and pulled her legs up on the chair behind her. At one point, she fell off the chairs. I witnessed her go from being terrified, to laughing hysterically, to crying, to being completely relaxed. I assure you, this was no act. It was very entertaining! At one point, she was “watching” a Lifetime movie and was crying as she explained the guy was going away and not coming back. After she was brought back out of hypnosis, I spoke with her. She said she could remember everything that happened. She also knew that the answers she was giving were wrong, but she just couldn’t say the right thing. She described it as a very odd feeling. Hypnotism fascinates and amazes me, yet I still don’t really feel willing to try it. Breckner did say once you have been hypnotized it gets easier every time. He threw a little comedy in with his routine. I laughed so hard, I cried. I would love to watch him again! Kudos to those willing to go on stage and be hypnotized! He promises to not have you reveal any deep secrets, and he keeps it pretty PG. He does things that make people in the audience laugh, but also manages to not really embarrass those he hypnotizes. I like being entertained by hypnotists and their volunteers. I just don’t ever plan to be one of them! I have to say great job to the Edgar Community Club! What a fun night. I can’t wait to see what you plan next!
