Opportunity Knocks...
Every once in a while, life gets very rough. Once it rains, it pours. That has been the case for me for a while. However, this weekend opportunity came knocking and things are looking up.
How often does opportunity knock on our doors? Do we notice it as opportunity? While this has not been an easy year, I have also been blessed in so many ways.
Opportunity knocked on my door with this job at Clay County News. It is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Ever notice how opportunity seems to knock just when we need it most?
I started doing some photography after my first child was born. It started out as just fun snapshots of her, keeping track of her milestones.
Once I had my second child and had family pictures taken, along with three year pictures, and newborn pictures I decided perhaps I should try a little harder with my photography skills.
That’s how it all started. Soon, others were asking me to take photos, for them. It is just a hobby for me, I am by no means a professional, but I do enjoy it.
Almost eight years after I got a little more serious about taking photos, I was about to give up. I certainly am not the only person with an eye for photography. It is great as a hobby, but it is just that. Not something I could use to really help support my family.
It was shortly after I decided I would just take pictures here and there, that opportunity came knocking, and I started working for Clay County News. I love this job. There is always something new and different every day. I get to go meet new people, experience new things. I’m not stuck in an office all day, I need to be outside!
I seemed to just fit in here, and my role at the paper took its own form. This weekend, opportunity knocked again. It threw me off like it always does. I was asked to do a special project. Looks like they will be asking me again in the future.
To me, it feels like these opportunities just fell into my lap. I am a religious person, so of course, I am also giving credit where credit is deserved.
I guess what I am saying is, don’t get too discouraged. Life loves to knock us down, it often feels like prayers are not being answered. Just be patient, things will happen right when they need to.
Now, that doesn’t mean life will suddenly be a cake walk. It just means something will go right. When you feel like it can’t get any worse, it will, just kidding. At some point, things will get better.
One day out of the blue, opportunity will knock. I answered the door and things have improved, I can see the silver lining. When opportunity knocked for me, it was completely unexpected. These turns have taken me down paths I had never even thought about. I’ve been so blessed with these new ventures. I get to be creative with all of them, and that’s what I need.
Keep your eyes peeled and your ears open. If opportunity comes knocking, will you answer?
