Lessons...

If you know me well, actually, if you know me at all, you know I am not a fan of wrestling. There are two boys I refer to as my surrogate nephews. They, of course, live and breathe wrestling. The older one even wants cauliflower ear... gross, and so not attractive. I digress, both boys had wrestling meets this past weekend. The older of the two was wrestling at a college meet in Hastings, so I went to that one. It was cold Saturday, you walk in from the freezing parking lot, into the arena, and wham! The sweat and stench and humidity smack you in the face (and nostrils). Thought one to enter my mind... why do people like this? They were having computer issues at this meet, it started two hours and forty-five minutes late. Luckily, I did not bring my son, and my girls had a friends to play with to occupy the time. I got to sit with a few friends, and catch up on life, which is always nice! We also took some selfies to pass the time. As we were sitting on the bleachers, we noticed a sound, kind of a ticking, but also reminiscent of styrofoam rubbing against itself. We could not figure out where it was coming from. We actually started to wonder if we were sitting on a bomb. Must not have been a bomb because nothing went off. My oldest daughter was positive it was the speakers and I think she was right. After the noise and almost three hours of absolutely nothing, I though again, why do people like this? Then the meet started. I don't understand wrestling at all, makes no sense to me. I don't get the points, etc. This was a college meet, so of course, the rules are different than high school, as well as the point system. Five hours after arriving at this meet, it was time to watch Logan wrestle... One match before his and he is in the corner, jumping around, warming up. I can't sit still in my seat, my legs start bouncing up and down. Brenda asked me to take pictures with her camera so she could film it, so I took out my phone and her camera and snapped away (I'm talented like that). As I said earlier, this is five hours after we arrived at the meet. Logan get on the mat and the match starts. Just over one minute later, he pins his opponent. Holy cow, that was intense, and quick. So worth the wait! We are jumping up and down with excitement, and waiting for high fives from Logan. The waiting game begins again. I believe it was right before Logan wrestled, there was a kid on the mat in front of us that got choked out. He was passed out for a good 10-15 seconds. Kind of intense watching them flip a very limp, large man over and shake him until he comes to. He was fine, of course. That match was over, but he did wrestle again later. A few hours passed and Logan was up again. This match took a little longer, and had a lot more "wrestling" involved. He won again! I was starting to kind of like watching this... In between his matches, I was watching another match. All the sudden, this one wrestler had the other's leg by his foot, and he pulled it up so high his knee was bending in the wrong direction, I had to turn away. Logan lost his last two matches of the day. The third kids he wrestled was huge, muscle upon muscle. I haven't seen shoulders that big before. His last match was another tough one, however, he really made the kids work for it! I am so proud of him, and, it pains me to admit... I can't wait to watch him again!
